Description:
A second generation drag racer, Tony Pedregon was born to race. With a fierce desire for speed and success, Pedregon has become synonymous with the National Hot Rod Association. First a competitor, then a winner, now a champion, Pedregon continues to set goals and conquer them.
Pedregon first joined the racing world in the early 1990s when he briefly drove a Top Alcohol Dragster. The results weren’t exactly what he was looking for, but his career path would veer in a better direction when Larry Minor, whom Tony’s brother, Cruz, had won a championship with, offered him a part-time ride in a Top Fuel dragster. Pedregon competed with the independently funded team for three years, winning only two Top Fuel rounds, but turning the heads of many in the sport.
In 1995, Pedregon made his debut in a Funny Car, also owned by Minor. Pedregon raced the car, nicknamed “Geronimo,” in 11 events that year. While he didn’t win any events, he surprised many with his qualifying success, as he qualified second, third, fifth (twice) and sixth. It was Tony’s perseverance, as well as his obvious racing ability, that attracted drag racing legend, John Force, to the young driver.
