This firesuit was worn by a pit crew member of either Brendan Gaughan or Steve Wallace's. We are unsure which crew the firesuit came from, as the main logos are for Rusty Wallace Racing and it features all sponsors from both teams on the front (Dannmar, U.S. Fidelis, 5-Hour Energy and SouthPoint Hotel & Casino).
From the moment that the pit crews are allowed to enter the pits just after sunrise to the second that the checkered flag flies, more items are used all through a race day than one can imagine. Throughout the event, these race-used items are put to use for their intended purpose, whether it be for photos in victory lane or for protecting the pit crew from injury. However, once the cars are loaded up and the haulers start to pull out of the pits and fans head for the exits, everything that was used at the race obtains an elite collectible status and is sought after by fans.
The hunt for race-used memorabilia ranges from finding items like sheet metal off of a wrecked car to the highly prized driver uniform. What makes these collectibles rare is the role that they once played in a race. Whether it’s a car part from a race-winning car or the fire suit off of the pit crew’s back, these collectibles were once part of the thrill and excitement of race day action! Adding to the prestige of the items is the fact that not too many fans are able to include the pieces to their personal collections. Many times items are either stored at a team’s facilities or donated to sponsors.
