Not only is this Action-RCCA car incredibly rare, it marks a very important part of NASCAR history: the year that Dale Earnhardt became "The Man in Black". In 1988, the colors of the #3 Monte Carlo switched from Wrangler yellow and blue to GM Goodwrench Black. As all of you loyal fans know, he faithfully ran these colors for the remainder of his career, and will forever be remembered for driving a black #3 Chevy.
Dale drove this Monte Carlo Aero-Coupe as hard as he could that year, and with 19 top-10's, 13 top-5's, and 3 wins, he was right in the middle of the fight for the title. But in the last quarter of the season, Bill Elliott and Rusty Wallace were able to sneak by him in the points, and The Intimidator had to settle for third.
This car on the auction block today is the Elite version of Dale's 1988 Monte Carlo Aero-Coupe. The Elite series is Action's best and features better detailing than you will find anywhere else. It features an opening hood and trunk, detailed front and rear suspension, a highly detailed interior, a detailed chassis, and a detailed engine. Action only produced 3,205 and this one is individually numbered at #0422.
