Fred’s Pick Of The Week - Here's a personal message from Fred Ertl, Jr. himself on this unique collection of vehicles:
This “Fred’s Pick” is out of the ordinary because it consists of 12 Russian made auto replicas. I believe the replicas were all produced prior to 1988. The Ertl Company was contacted by a Russian company about a possible joint venture. The company shipped us die-cast replica samples that did not meet the ERTL company standards.
One of the company’s representatives came to Dyersville, IA. for a meeting in which he brought more replica models with him. We engaged in several months of discussion and research but decided it could not work and the project was scrapped. This is how I got my hands on these rare Russian models.
I personally think there are very few Russian replica models in the United States. They would be nice collector items for a serious replica car collector. This may be your only chance to get them all at one place. A lot of people ask why don’t I keep all the items up for auction on GoMotorBids? We’ll I’m 80 years old and I don’t want to leave them for my family to try and sell and they agree.
This provides an opportunity for all types of collectors to obtain some real collector pieces from my personal grouping that at one time consisted of so many items it was nearly impossible to be displayed in one place. The numbers left are decreasing and only available on GoMotorBids.com
